The Secret Desires

of a Mom

SPOTLIGHT              Leader's Edge

Ministry leaders, community group leaders, and East Campus Launch Team - you’ve got to be at our next Leader’s Edge gathering on Thursday, May 15th.  Dave Ferguson, pastor of one of the leading multi-site churches in the country will be here to share their story and what they’ve learned.  It’s a perfect time to get our group leaders and ministry leaders together with the launch team of our new site.

We’ll have dinner at 6:00 PM ($ donations appreciated) and your family is welcome to join us.  Our meeting will begin promptly at 6:45 PM.  Please contact the church to let us know if you’ll be coming for the meal and/or meeting, and need childcare.  May 11th is the last day to sign up for dinner.

SUNCREST FAMILY NEWS

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Tim and Lori Brown family upon the passing of Tim’s mother, Nanette K. Brown on April 30th, and also to the John and Linda Gettemans family upon the passing of Linda’s mother, Dorothy Margaret Shannon on May 3rd.

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Baptisms in service:  On May 18th and 25th we get to join many as they celebrate new life through the symbol of baptism.  Baptism reminds us of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection and is a public expression of faith in Christ.  If you have been considering this next step, please contact Doug Gamble at doug.gamble@suncrest.org.

Suncrest is sponsoring a ‘garage sale’ in our parking lot on May 30th & 31st.  All proceeds will benefit The Women’s Center of Northwest Indiana.  Please donate your gently used items.  We need people to help with set up and sales.  Monetary donations will also be accepted.  Please call Chrissy Book at 865.1219 for additional information.

Mark your calendars!  The 2008 Suncrest Golf Outing will be held on June 28th at Turkey Creek.  Registration begins next Sunday, May 18th.  More details to come.

Beginning the Journey:  Spending time in God’s Word is a necessary part of a Christ follower’s relationship with God and Suncrest wants to help you in that journey.  On Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 PM, we will begin a four week Bible study experience.  Through selected passages, we will learn how to apply Bible study principles in our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  We will learn some basic principles that will help us to better read, understand, and apply God’s Word.   Register by calling the church office.

MISSIONS

The Suncrest Mission Team has several Mission Trips planned for the upcoming months.

  • Consider a family trip to New England this summer on June 22-28!  Camp Create in Salem, New Hampshire is a children’s summer Arts Camp that reaches into a community of non-believers.
  • On July 12-21, Suncrest will send a group to Pachuca, Mexico to help another new church!  Participants in this trip will help teach English as a second language (no knowledge of Spanish needed) and work on a construction project.
  • In October, a group from Suncrest will help Common Ground Christian Church in Tampa, Florida with beautification projects and with outreach into their community.

Though these trips are months away, many details must be taken care of now, so please stop by the ministry table in the Commons Area.  We have a list of those who have taken trips in the past – talk with them and learn about the blessing of serving others!  Dontact Denise at denise.tribble@suncrest.org.

High school seniors, the year is coming to a close and college awaits!  The Suncrest Mission team sets aside scholarship money each year to help those students in need.  If you are a member of Suncrest, take part in Christian service and leadership, you need to pick up an application at the reception desk!  The application needs to be filled out in its entirety; the deadline is June 15th.

GO! Children’s Ministry:  Love kids?  We have an opening on our 5 year old/Kindergarten teaching team at 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM, and 11:00 AM.  Come and make this hour the best hour of a child’s week (and of your week, too!).  Please contact Sue Hertzfeldt at sue.hertzfeldt@suncrest.org or at 365.9000.

PARENT BABY DEDICATION:  Here’s a great opportunity for parents to dedicate their children to God, and to dedicate themselves to raise their children in a Godly way. The dedication will take place on Sunday, June 15th during all three worship services.  A mandatory parent meeting for all participating in the dedication will be Sunday, June 1st, in Room 101, after the third service (childcare available).   Register on the tear-off panel.
